Another number one bites the dust. Yesterday didn’t have the chaos of last week or the week before it, but Oklahoma’s loss to Missouri and Auburn’s besting of LSU leaves only seven unbeaten teams—Auburn, Boise State, Michigan State, Missouri, Oregon, TCU and Utah.

Auburn’s win vaulted them to the top of both the ESP and AVR as the Tigers’ own as impressive of a resume as any team. The Cam Netwon-led squad has faced the 17th toughest strength of schedule, have beaten more quality opponents than any other team save Wisconsin, and have an excellent statistical performance to date (no doubt helped by rushing for 404 yards at 8.5 yards a clip against an LSU defense that was allowing under 84 yards per game on the ground prior to yesterday).

After the decisive loss to Navy the Irish drop 16 spots down to 58 in the AVR. Notre Dame has faced the 7th most difficult slate of teams and rank in the bottom half of the country in adjusted win percentage (AWP) and margin of victory (MOV). The poor performance against the Midshipmen also dropped the team performance ratio (TPR) rankings 10 spots. The Irish rank 65th on offense and 44th on defense.
